Dedicated vision becomes reality.
“Make hard look easy” is a common phrase amongst our Lemburg House team. Effortless beauty is family land—rich with history and heritage. Effortless beauty is a home that sits light on the earth—and even lighter on the environment. We would go as far to say, it’s a space that makes all your hard days feel easy.
The exterior of the Turkey Shed was inspired by our client’s childhood. Humble turkey farmers nurture their family and land with the long view in mind. With similar passion, her husband meticulously designed every detail of the new and vastly improved Turkey Shed. We felt the gravity of responsibility given to us instantly and couldn’t wait to see this dedicated vision become reality!
Granite was excavated with precision and thoughtfully reserved for its future purpose. New level ground was the first building block for this 120 foot by 25-foot linear house. Proper research and development for Rainwater Harvesting and other Mechanical Systems were a focus throughout. Efficient and Sustainable building practices became the cornerstone from which the entire home revolved. And with 63 windows and doors, you can imagine the challenges we faced to protect the integrity of the building envelope! (For our fellow Building Science nerds, this home performed a 1.00 ACH50 on the Blower Door Test)
The sleek yet robust shed roof is one of our favorite design elements of the home. It’s always a win-win, if a design element can achieve architectural style while also contributing to energy efficiency. Before moving inside, it is worth mentioning that the house was wrapped in Corten siding. This corrugated metal is designed to oxidize rapidly to create the iconic color seen here.
The Turkey Shed House wasn’t just about nuts and bolts. Reflecting the beauty of the surrounding landscape was also a top priority. The Marvin Essential windows almost make that point all on their own. No matter what room of the home you are in, there is a view to optimize your enjoyment of the space. Additionally, Glu-lam Beams stretch across the house, as the Pedernales cuts through the Texas Hill Country. These beams carry clear through the house end to end, making them critical to the structure and design! Soft green cabinetry is the perfect compliment to cool stone countertops, reminiscent of the delicate moss spread across nearby granite. Like a home turned inside out, the Turkey Shed represents continuity through and through!
When the Turkey Shed approached completion, the massive granite stones were returned as promised. Like a massive jigsaw puzzle, each stone was meticulously placed. The perfect finishing touch to authentic native landscaping. The land already felt like home, but now our clients can finally call it home! It’s not hard to see—this home is easy to love night or day!
